Check a task

Send a GET request with the task id you got when you queued the download, using the same Basic auth token:
cURL
The older /v3/task/{task_id}/results URL also still works.
  • 204 - the download is still running.
  • 200 - the download has finished and Video downloader has tried to upload the file. Check status_code in the response:
    • 200 means the upload worked. content holds the file name, {video_id}_{task_id}.mp4.
    • Any other value means the video wasn’t uploaded. See the codes below.

Error codes

Video downloader can’t currently show:
  • Download progress (how much is done or left).
  • Whether the upload to upload_url failed, for example because of wrong credentials or a missing bucket.
Test a new storage setup with a short clip first. See Quick start.

Geo-restricted videos

Video downloader attempts to automatically pick the best location from where to download geo-restricted videos. However, YouTube videos do not expose information about what geolocation a given video is restricted to, therefore, the download may fail after a fixed number of attempts. Manually retrying the scraping request may be required.

Billing

Video downloader is billed by traffic, not per request. You’re charged even when the upload to your storage fails, so the traffic used to fetch the video still counts.
Traffic is billed as the total data moved to complete a download: the video file itself, plus a small amount of unavoidable transfer data needed to retrieve it. This extra data varies by video, depending on how the source platform delivers it, so total traffic is always slightly higher than the final file size in your storage.
